Avoiding Loss in

Translation

Throughout my adult life, I have been interested in Japanese culture and have had the dream of moving there to live and work if possible. With that in mind, when tasked with the analysis, editing, and revision of an instructional website for the US market to maximize the page’s benefit to a Japanese audience, I was happy to be able to do so. Following the examination of the site, a fully edited version of the page was created to detail all necessary adjustments required for successful translation.

To begin with, the procedural was thoroughly examined in an analysis report which is the first of the two presented documents. This analysis report was just that, a report detailing the process of preparing the document for translation and my reasoning. I found the detailed preparation process an engaging endeavor and can see the potential for performing similar work in the future.

Working through this project was interesting and beneficial to my early stages of studying the Japanese language. This was also an excellent practical demonstration of the importance of understanding and appreciating the cultural differences of different audiences.
